PREMISE
I always need pouches to organise my bags: this time, I wanted something not too big to keep my keys and my make-up so I came up with this design.
Here below you can find the FREE pattern for both versions (Pink and Blue)!
This pattern is totally free, but it’s intellectual property of Elendipity:
you can use it and, of course, you can sell the final products you create, but you cannot sell the pattern (which is also illegal by the way… just saying 🤷♀️😂).
You should also credit Elendipity (as pattern creator) whenever you sell the final product.

HOW TO
MATERIAL
For both projects I used:
- 3.5mm crochet hook (please check your yarn label to use the right crochet hook)
- n. 2 stitch markers
Here the yarn I used:
PURPLE SHADES
- Pastel Pink (Cotton 8/8 – color n. 42, from Hobbii) – about 12 grams
- Baby Pink (Cotton 8/8 – color n. 43, from Hobbii) – about 4 grams
- Rose (Cotton 8/8 – color n. 44, from Hobbii) – about 4 grams
- Light Pink (Cotton 8/8 – color n. 62, from Hobbii) – about 2 grams
- Pink (Cotton 8/8 – color n. 45, from Hobbii) – about 2 grams
- Black (Cotton 8/8 – color n. 3, from Hobbii) – about 15 grams
BLUE SHADES
- White (Cotton 8/8 – color n. 1, from Hobbii) – about 10 grams
- Mint (Cotton 8/8 – color n. 24, from Hobbii) – about 5 grams
- Dark Mint (Cotton 8/8 – color n. 85, from Hobbii) – about 3 grams
- Petrol Blue (Cotton 8/8 – color n. 35, from Hobbii) – about 2 grams
- Dark Teal (Cotton 8/8 – color n. 91, from Hobbii) – about 2 grams
- Black (Cotton 8/8 – color n. 3, from Hobbii) – about 15 grams
TERMS
Here below the list of the stitches (US terms) you are going to use for this project.
The MOSAIC Crochet is a particular technique that alternates single crochet and double crochet.
There a lot of videos on YouTube that you can watch to learn about it, I would recommend this one from Bella Coco, just be careful because she uses UK terminology, but she is really good with the explanation.
- CH = Chain
- SC = Single Crochet
- DC = Double Crochet
- SS = Slip Stitch
- st = stitches
- BLO = Back Loop Only
- FLO = Back Loop Only
INSTRUCTIONS
The pouch will be worked bottom-up.
You will start with a foundation chain (working on both side of the chain to create a sort of oval – at this link you can watch a video I recorded on how to create an oval from a chain – min. 1:43).
After this, you will work in rounds (using the spiral method – no SS to join).
Since with the Mosaic technique you will change colour every round, you can bring the ends of each yarn with you so you don’t have to weave ends at the end.
You don’t need to cut the black yarn until you reach the last black round because you will continuously use it every two rounds.
For both versions you will have a chart to follow:
- the rounds start from the bottom right (from number 1) and you will work from right to left
- the chart is for a pouch of 24 stitches both sides, you can double it if you want the pouch to be bigger
- the “X” in the chart indicates DC worked in the FLO of the rounds below
Let’s get started!!
MOSAIC POUCH SHADES
- FOUNDATION CHAIN
Starting with colour A, CH 23.
From the 2nd chain from the hook, work 2 SC in the first chain, SC 1 in the next 20 chains, 4 SC in the last chain.
Now work in the back of the chain: SC 20 and SC 2 in the last stitch.
In this way you will have 24 stitches on both sides.
I would recommend to place one stitch marker on the 1st stitch and one stitch marker on the 25th stitch.
Now you can start with the chart.
In the Pink Shades the first round will be normal SC and all the others BLO SC and/or DC (DC indicated by the red “X”).
In the Blue Shades you will start immediately the first round with BLO SC.
- CHARTS
- FINISHING
When you arrive at the end (last round), you close with a SS in the first stitch of previous round).
Fasten off and weave end if you need to.
Congratulations!! The pouch is done and ready to be used.
If you prefer, you could create a loop (crocheting some chains) in the middle of the top of one side and attach a button on the other side to close it easily.
I personally preferred adding some lining and a zipper.

The patterns with the lining are the ones in the pictures before the final results pictures (Cat bag, Money Pouch, etc). I understand it might be confusing because there isn’t the one for the mosaic pouch, the mosaic pattern is only a Free Pattern without the specific instructions of the lining, but the Money Pouch, for example, is very inexpensive and it explains step by step how to insert the lining and you can use it for the mosaic pouch as well, here is the link: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1065271650/crochet-zipper-money-pouch-with-lining?ref=shop_home_active_1
