PREMISE
I love to be surrounded by creative people, for all crafts.
Therefore of course I’m in some crafts groups on Facebook and more specifically crochet and sewing groups.
Pin One of the things I noticed in various crochet groups is that most of the people (and I am definitely one of them) don’t like sewing parts.
So I decided to start creating some animals amigurumi with NO SEWING at all!!
And here we are with the third one of this collection, the others are Sat the Pig and Arthur the Cat that you can find here.
The pattern in this page is totally free, but it’s intellectual property of Elendipity.
You can use it and, of course, you can sell the final products you create, but you cannot sell the pattern or any alteration of the pattern.
You should also credit Elendipity (as pattern creator) whenever you create it, share it and/or sell it.
Feel free to tag me on my Instagram if you create it, I would love to see your works!!
There is also an inexpensive ad-free pdf version of the pattern with more than 60 photos to explain you the process step by step, you can buy it here.

Pin HOW TO
This amigurumi is worked from the front to the back of the animal, so you will begin from the trunk, the head and you will continue working in round creating the ears, then the legs and finally the tail.
It is worked in continuous rounds, no slip stitch to join.
MATERIAL
I used:
- For the small elephant, Hobbii Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8, colour n. 071 (Light Blue Sky) – 18gr / Crochet hook 3.5mm
- For the big elephant (velvet yarn) Hobbii Baby Snuggle, colour n. 015 (Dusty Blue) – 36gr / Crochet hook 6mm
- safety eyes
- stitch marker
- stuffing
- darning needle
- hair brush or pet brush (optional)
I bought the yarn at Hobbii.
TERMS
Here below the list of the stitches (US terms) that we are going to use for this project.
- MC = Magic Circle
- CH = Chain
- SS = Slip Stich
- SC = Single Crochet
- HDC = Half Double Crochet
- DC = Double Crochet
- TC = Treble Crochet
- INC (Increase) = 2 stitches in the same stitch
- DEC (Decrease) = 1 stitch worked over two stitches – it would be better if you know how to do Invisible Decrease.
- st = stitches
- BLO = Back Loop Only
- FLO = Front Loop Only
- BOBBLE = Bobble stitch is 5 DC together + 1 CH and more specifically: 1. Yarn over, insert the hook in the stitch, yarn over, pull through (you will have now 3 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through only 2 loops and you will now have 2 loops on your hook; 2. Yarn over, insert the hook in the stitch, yarn over, pull through (you will have now 4 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through only 2 loops, you will now have 3 loops on your hook; 3. Yarn over, insert the hook in the stitch, yarn over, pull through (you will have now 5 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through only 2 loops, you will now have 4 loops on your hook; 4. Yarn over, insert the hook in the stitch, yarn over, pull through (you will have now 6 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through only 2 loops, you will now have 5 loops on your hook; 5. Yarn over, insert the hook in the stitch, yarn over, pull through (you will have now 7 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through only 2 loops, you will now have 6 loops on your hook; 6. Yarn over and pull through all the 6 loops and now you do 1 CH
- Number in brackets, at the end of each round, indicates the total stitches for the round.
- Instruction between * … * means you have to repeat what is between the asterisks by the times indicated after the second asterisk.
- Instruction between ( … ) means you have to do all the stitches in the brackets in the same stitch.
- You will always find the acronym of the stitch and a number close to it; if the number is before the name of the stitch, it means that you will have to repeat those stitches in the same space. For example: 5 DC = 5 Double Crochet in the same stitch / DC 5 = 5 Double Crochet in the next 5 stitches

SC 30 (30)
- ROUND 23
* SC 3, DEC * x 6 (24)
- ROUND 24 Beginner
* DEC, SC 2 * x 3, DEC 1, (FLO SS 1, 11 CH, starting from the 2nd CH from the hook SC 1, HDC 1, SC 1, SS 7 and SS 1 in the same FLO where you did the first SS), SC 1, * DEC, SC 2 * x 2 (18)
Pin - ROUND 24 Intermediate
* DEC, SC 2 * x 3, DEC 1, (FLO SS 1, 9 CH, starting from the 2nd CH from the hook 3 SS with loops, SS 7 and SS 1 in the same FLO where you did the first SS), SC 1, * DEC, SC 2 * x 2 (18)
You will give the right shape to the tail at the end.
Pin - ROUND 25
* DEC, SC 1 * x 6 (12)
For the 4th DEC you will do a normal DEC, not Invisible Decrease because you will have a normal SC + a BLO
- ROUND 26
* DEC * x 6 (6)
If you did the beginner tail, you’re done!
If, instead, you did the intermediate tail, you will have now to cut the loops in half, then shorten them, brush them with the hair brush or pet brush and cut a triangle shape.
This in the photo the result, but, if you want to see how to do it with photos step by step you can buy the inexpensive PDF pattern at this link.
Pin And HERE WE ARE: your ELEPHANT amigurumi no sewing is done! 🐘
Now you can decide to leave it like this or to add a keychain.

Hi, I’m Eleonora. I grew up in Milan and have been living in London since 2019. I left a corporate career to turn my lifelong passion for crafts into a full-time creative business. Creating with my hands has always been part of who I am – from crochet to sewing, from small handmade projects to full garments. I also have a soft spot for animals, especially cats. I started crocheting at a young age and later taught myself how to sew through books and online tutorials. Over time, I began experimenting with different techniques, patterns, and materials, discovering just how powerful and calming handmade creativity can be. That journey led me to share my knowledge online, first through YouTube and later through classes, patterns, and workshops. Today, I’m a crochet and sewing teacher, helping others learn at their own pace and find confidence through making.

I love this pattern so much I’ve probably made more than you have!
aaww that’s super sweet! I’m very happy you like my pattern! I would love to see your elephants, you can tag me on instagram @_elendipity_ if you wish.
I love this pattern, but I was wondering how do you get the ears to stick out like that? On all of my finished elephants the ears go forward and cover the eyes instead of sticking out.
Hi Jennifer,
thanks for your comment.
With some types of yarn it can happen that the ears go forward a little but, what I do is, simply, gently moving the ears back with my fingers and they usually stay in position after that.
I’m a little confused about round 12 and the ears. If you count all the stitches needed for round 12, 32 stiches are needed but there’s only 30 unless you count the ears so would the back loop left from the ears be the 2 extra stiches we use? Thank you!
Hi Scarlett, thank you for your comment.
In round 11 you finish with 30 stitches and more specifically: SC 9, Right Ear (which is one stitch all worked in FLO), SC 10, Left Ear (which is one stitch all worked in FLO), SC 9 for a total of 30 stitches.
In round 12 you will work on 30 stitches with some increase so you will end up with 36 stitches and more specifically: SC 8, INC (in 1 stitch), BLO 2 DC (all in 1 stitch), INC (in 1 stitch), SC 8, INC (in 1 stitch), BLO 2 DC (all in 1 stitch), INC (in 1 stitch), SC 8.
I think what it might have confused you in round 12 is “BLO 2 DC”: this is 2 DC worked in the same stitch in the BLO – basically it’s worked in the back of the ears, since the ears were worked in the Front Loop.
I hope this helps, you can write me to info@elendipity-com.stackstaging.com if you have any other doubt.
I just would like to remind you that there is also a very inexpensive paid version of the pattern where you have photos step by step – you can find it at this link: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1333966073/no-sew-elephant-amigurumi-digital
Thanks and have a lovely day

Oh ok, yeah the BLO dc was what confused me. Thank you so much for clarifying that!
Great!
I’m glad!

We would love to see your creation!

I love this pattern, I’m just confused why you do some of the stitches in FLO or BLO. Does it change the shape of the elephant? For example, the FLO in round 2, the FLO SS in round 3, the BLO DC in round 12 and so on. I’m wondering if it will come out differently if I do not do the BLO/FLO. Same with the BO for the feet.
thank you so much for the help!
Hi Margo,
thanks for your comment.
Yes, the FLO and BLO are important to the shape, let me explain it better 🙂
This is a complete no-sewing pattern, meaning that all the parts are crocheted while you’re doing the rounds and they are not attached later.
So when you crochet the parts (ear, legs, etc) you do that in the FLO so you leave a back loop free to work in the next round. If you’d work the part in both loops then you wouldn’t have any space to enter the stitch in the next round resulting in a hole in the pattern (and wrong counting).
Remember that there is a paid version of the pattern where you have picture step by step to show you the process better.
Have a lovely day!
