Doll Coat – Crochet

PinI recently decided to create a crochet collection for Tiffany, the Barbie.
On my Instagram profile you can see more projects I made for Tiffany.
Since we are almost in winter I thought that creating a coat was the right choice to start with 😊
I just needed some inspiration.
I tried to search for a pattern online, but I didn’t find anything that really inspired me.
So I remembered that some months ago I made an Amigurumi with a coat and I thought that, maybe, it could suit Barbie…ehm, Tiffany.
So I decided to take the pattern of that coat and to modify it to adapt it for the Barbie size.
Here below the free pattern!
This pattern is totally free, but it’s intellectual property of Elendipity:
You can use it and, of course, you can sell the final products you create, but you cannot sell the pattern (which is also illegal by the way… just saying 🤷♀️😂).
You should also credit Elendipity (as pattern creator) whenever you sell the final product.
Feel free to tag me on my Instagram if you create it, I would love to see your works!!
Here below the list of the stitches (US terms) we are going to use for this project.
Don’t worry, also a beginner can do it, it just asks a little bit of practice on these stitches.
On YouTube you can find a lot of videos about how to do decrease.
Shall we start?
Let’s go!!
The starting chains of the rows don’t count as a stitch.
Follow the rows (at the end of each row you can find the stitch count in brackets).
If you are a beginner, I would recommend to use two stitch markers: one on the first stitch of the row and one on the last stitch of the row.
Start with blue, CH 48
SC 47 (starting from the 2nd CH from the hook) (47)
CH 1, turn, SC 47 (47)
CH 1, turn, (DEC, SC 6) x 5 times, DEC, SC 5 (41)
CH 1, turn, SC 41 (41)
CH 1, turn, (DEC, SC 7) x 4, DEC, SC 3 (36)
CH 1, turn, SC 36 (36)
CH 1, turn, SC 8, CH 7, skip next 7 st (work in the 8th st), SC 9, CH 7, skip next 7 st (work in the 8th st), SC 5 (36)
CH 1, turn, SC 5, SC 7 in BLO of the chain (this will it easier when you will do the sleeves later) , SC 9, SC 7 in BLO of previous chain, SC 8 (36)
CH 1, turn, SC 36, change colour to Silver when closing the last SC (36)
In this video, you can see how to change colour (min. 0.54).
CH 2, turn, HDC 36, change colour to blue when closing the last HDC (36)
CH 2, turn, HDC 36, change colour to silver when closing the last HDC (36)
CH 2, turn, HDC 36, change colour to blue when closing the last HDC (36)
CH 2, turn, DC 5, HDC 8, SC 8, HDC 8, DC 7 change colour to silver when closing the last DC (36)
CH 2, turn, HDC 36, change colour to blue when closing the last HDC (36)
CH 2, turn, HDC 36, SS in the last st (36)
Fasten off and weave ends.
For the sleeves you have to be little bit careful where you start crocheting.
You should crochet on the front loop of the chains we did at Row 31.
Insert the hook as showed in the image and take the yarn.
Now follow the pattern.
Pin Bear in mind that the sleeves are worked in spiral (not ss to join and not chains to start).
To avoid losing count, I highly recommend to insert a stitch marker in the first stitch of the row, each time)
Start with blue, SC 16 directly in the arm hole (16)
SC 16 (16)
At the end of Row 11, change colour to silver
SC 16, change colour to blue when closing the last SC(16)
SC 16, change colour to silver when closing the last SC(16)
SC 16, change colour to blue when closing the last SC(16)
HDC 16 (16)
SS in the next stitch.
Fasten off and weave ends
Now try the coat on your Barbie and position the buttons.
I put mine as follows:
Up button: same row of the sleeves start, close to the edge of the coat
Middle button: between row 21 and row 22, on the 4th stitch from the edge.
Pin Be careful:
On the side that overlaps, the buttons should stay in the wrong side (inside the coat).
If you have doubt, try the coat on your Barbie and stop the buttons with pins before sweing them.
You will notice that the coat is curving a little bit on the edges, don’t panic, it’s absolutely normal.
I would suggest you to block your work: simply stop the coat in position on a mat with some anti-rust pins and spray water on it.
Leave it like this overnight and your coat will be in a perfect shape!
You might need to this again if you wash it.
Pin You can block it before or after putting the buttons: I personally prefer to do this before the buttons to avoid they become rusty.
And HERE WE ARE!
Coat finished!! Well done!
Here below some photos of Tiffany and her coat in Hyde Park 😍

Pin Hi, I’m Eleonora. I grew up in Milan and have been living in London since 2019. I left a corporate career to turn my lifelong passion for crafts into a full-time creative business. Creating with my hands has always been part of who I am – from crochet to sewing, from small handmade projects to full garments. I also have a soft spot for animals, especially cats. I started crocheting at a young age and later taught myself how to sew through books and online tutorials. Over time, I began experimenting with different techniques, patterns, and materials, discovering just how powerful and calming handmade creativity can be. That journey led me to share my knowledge online, first through YouTube and later through classes, patterns, and workshops. Today, I’m a crochet and sewing teacher, helping others learn at their own pace and find confidence through making.
